ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer in Rush.

It happened on Rush Mendon Road, Route 251, in the eastbound lane between Pinnacle and Rush Mendon Townline roads just before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Sgt. Matthew Bottone said Richard Gaskill, 64, of Penfield, drove off the road and crashed into the woods. The crash resulted in a large fluid spill and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Monroe County Fire Bureau HazMat Team and New York State Spill Response Team responded to mitigate the fluid.

Gaskill was pronounced dead on the scene. Deputies believe he may have had a medical issue.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The area was temporarily closed but has since reopened to traffic.

This investigation is ongoing.
