Deputies: Spencerport man charged in Wayne County assault

WALWORTH, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Spencerport man was charged Tuesday for an alleged assault in the Town of Walworth on July 17.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Jason Courtney hit a woman in the face, bit her, and choked her until she lost consciousness. Deputies say he also took her phone and car keys from her during the argument and left in her car without her permission.

Deputies said she was holding her two-year-old child at the time. The child was not injured.

Courtney is also accused of taking the victim’s phone and driving her car into another county.

He was charged with third degree assault, second degree strangulation, endangering the welfare of a child, fourth degree grand larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The victim is recovering and her car was recovered.

Courtney is due back in court at a later date.
