ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The complaints continue to roll in from frustrated drivers who have issues with the DMV.
Under an executive order by the governor, you need an appointment for any services at the DMV and you can't get one in Monroe County until October.
The only other option is to mail in all your documents, but there are problems there too.
It's proven frustrating for people who are trying to register cars, trucks and trailers they need for work.
People like Aaron Odom. Who wanted to register a trailer in person but couldn't get an appointment.
Aaron Odom: "I bought a trailer for my business and I sent the title to motor vehicles and a credit card. And my credit card information is on the paper and I still haven't received anything."
That was more than 3 weeks ago. The brand new trailer is still sitting at Lowe's because he can't take it home without plates.
"I would rather take the trailer back and get the money back because the season is almost over with now so that's $850 I'm out of and by the time they send it it's going to be in the wintertime almost." Odom said.
But he can't do that without the title, so he's stuck.
"It's totally unacceptable," Odom said.
We've received dozens of similar emails and calls from viewers. So News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke took their concerns to Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo, who runs the DMVs.
First. no appointments until October?
Lewke: "Why can't you have more appointments, is it a matter of space? Is it a matter of employees? What is the problem with opening up a little bit more even if it does have to be appointment-based?"
Romeo: "So part of the issue is it's a little bit of both."
Lewke: "Has there been conversations with the County Executive's Office about whether there's space available more space that you could use somewhere else whether there's more funding to hire more people?"
Romeo: "We've had some of those conversations but the biggest part of that is that as the DMV agent we are the agent of the state of New York we are processing state transactions that require state equipment and other state investments."
Lewke: "Have you requested any additional equipment from the state?"
Romeo: "We have not at this time because I do think there's more efficiencies that we can get right now and that's part of our ongoing process we're doing right now."
While they work on that, the only other option for all of us is to make a transaction through the mail.
Lewke: "We talked to a number of people who've mailed in their documents and have been waiting longer than three weeks do you know how big of a problem the delay is?"
Romeo: "There's a number of different issues with the mail that we have some of it is our work capacity some of it we know it's just the mail itself."
Romeo they're working to find more efficiencies which will hopefully open up more daily appointments soon.
In the meantime, if you've got something scheduled for October, you should check the website daily to see if you can grab an open slot when someone cancels.
