Jazmine Saunders is a junior at the Eastman School of Music with a big voice and big dreams.
She was named the 2020 recipient of the William Warfield Scholarship, which is named in honor of the great concert baritone. Warfield completed his studies with the help of a scholarship, and ESM's scholarship in his name is an homage to his educational experience.
The scholarship was started in 1977 with the goal of supporting African American students at the Eastman School of Music. Saunders is the most recent recipient and there have been 35 total recipients throughout the scholarship's history.
To mark the honor, Saunders will be performing in a virtual concert on Sunday, January 24 at 4 p.m. She'll be joined by past scholarship recipient Julia Bullock, William Warfield High School Vocal Competition Winner Judah Taylor, scholarship fund president Thomas Warfield, and members of the Garth Fagan Dance Company.
There is a $10 minimum donation to watch the concert, and all proceeds will go back into the scholarship fund. Learn more about the program and purchase tickets by clicking here.
