ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We are four weeks away from Election Day, and the Monroe County Board of Elections has some new information about how to make your vote count.

News10NBC talked to the county’s Republican and Democratic Commissioners about everything from early voting to new ballot propositions.

The 2021 General Election falls on Nov. 2. Republican Commissioner Lisa Nicolay says early voting begins on Oct. 23.

"People are encouraged to go vote in person at early voting nine days before the election, and the locations and times are on our website as well," Nicolay said.

If you can’t vote in person at the 266 polling sites spread throughout the County, there are always absentee ballots. Nicolay says you will see a change if choosing to apply for an absentee ballot.

"The requirement is no longer there for an excuse so you can ask for an absentee ballot online, or you can call us and ask us to send you an application," Nicolay said.

Democratic Commissioner Jackie Ortiz says voters will also see a list of five ballot proposals on the back of every ballot. She gave us a quick example of one of them which you can also find on their website.

"If folks like the ‘No Excuse’ absentee opportunity that has been afforded to us through the end of the year, that is one of the propositions that are on the ballot," Ortiz said.

Nicolay added, "It is important because every single one of them has a tax impact so they do affect people. They do affect residents. They affect voters. So I encourage people as well to read them, and know what they’re voting yes, or no on."

Some polling sites such as the Boys and Girls Clubs will require that you wear a mask before entering their building. Click here for more information on the 2021 General Elections.
