ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The City of Rochester announced the launch of its "FloShare" program Tuesday.

Flower City Carshare—or "FloShare"—offers residents and visitors affordable access to Chevrolet Volts that can be rented on an hourly or daily basis via a smartphone mobile app.

Residents seeking to use the service can download the Miocar Networks smartphone app available on the Apple App Store or Google Play to start the process.

Vehicles are available 24 hours a day and parked at charging stations installed in the following areas:

  • Rochester Regional Health St. Mary’s Campus, 89 Genesee St
  • The Rochester Public Market
  • 280 N. Union St.
  • Genesee Valley Park, 131 N. Elmwood Ave.

The cars are $5 an hour or $40 a day. Insurance, car maintenance, and roadside assistance are included in those rates.

FloShare is supported by a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of NYSERDA said, “NYSERDA is proud to partner with the City of Rochester and Mobility Development Operations to put all-electric vehicles into the hands of the community through this innovative car sharing service. Pairing hourly or daily use with a smartphone app provides flexibility and convenient access to a clean transportation option that might not otherwise be available to a resident, and will help to lower emissions and improve air quality in the city.”
