FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The annual Fairport Angels Blood Drive is Thursday afternoon in memory of five Fairport High School graduates who were killed in a car crash 14 years ago.
The blood drive will be held at St. John of Rochester Church in Fairport from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"It has been fourteen years and I think like everyone else from the area I kind of remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the tragedy,' said blood donor Meg Smerveck. "I'm a mother and a grandmother so I share so much and I can only imagine the grief."
Participants are asked to pre-register through the American Red Cross.
To make an appointment to donate, call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code “stjohnofrochesterfairport”.
The Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage.
