ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State is now set to hand out an extra 300 dollars in weekly unemployment benefits.

FEMA has approved the state's request for a grant through the government's Lost Wages Assistance Program.

Governor Andrew Cuomo had initially said New York State wouldn't be participating in the program set up by President Trump because it required states to pay for a portion of those benefits, but that changed after the president allowed states to cover the cost through FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund.
