ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A fire at an auto repair shop in Rochester created a hazmat situation Monday afternoon.

It started with a fire at a shop on Lyell Avenue near Murray Street at around 2:40 p.m.

Then, a level 1 hazmat was declared in because some oil storage drums were damaged by the fire and leaking. The hazmat team contained the leak, and moved the materials as well as decontaminated the firefighters.

The fire was under control in about 25 minutes.

The auto shop has extensive smoke and fire damage, but no one was hurt.

The Rochester Fire Investigation Unit is still working to determine the cause.
