ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Chinese researchers wanted to determine whether frequent naps could increase a person’s risk for high blood pressure and or stroke. They used observational analysis of participants for a long period of time as well as genetic risk validation to conduct their investigation. The researchers found that people who usually nap were 12% more likely to develop high blood pressure and 24% more likely to have a stroke, compared to people who reported never taking a nap.

The study also found that those who were more likely to nap were men, had lower education and income levels, and reported cigarette smoking, daily drinking, insomnia, snoring, and being an evening person.
