GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — Six people were arrested after a car chase late Friday night.

Gates Police say around 11 p.m. an officer spotted a stolen car on Buell Road in the vicinity of Wednesday's deadly carjacking.

A chase ensued which lasted about two miles. During the chase, officers say a loaded pistol was tossed from the car down Brooks Avenue.

Officers were able to stop the car on Chili Avenue and a second loaded pistol was found inside the car.

Three 18-year-olds, two 17-year-olds, and a 16-year-old were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property.

Investigators learned that the car was stolen last month in the City of Rochester.

The three adults were taken to jail and the teens were held at a juvenile detention center.

Police say their criminal backgrounds vary from one being a predicate felon at the age of 18 years old, to another having a prior sawed-off shotgun robbery.

The six that were arrested were not involved in the deadly carjacking on Buell Road, according to Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode.

The Gates Police Department shared the incident on Facebook Saturday saying the criminal justice system and the lack of parenting is the issue.

"What's broken? The Criminal Justice System's failure to correct behavior and the lack of parenting. Allowing kids to run the streets leads to potentially lifelong consequences for innocent victims and the unsupervised child."

Gates Police say they need parent cooperation to fight crime in our community.
