GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Wilmot Cancer Institute is raising colorectal cancer awareness in a very unique way this Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

An inflatable colon that you can walk through is set up at the Mall at Greece Ridge.

Friday also marked a day for people to wear blue to bring awareness and support the work of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

"If people are eligible for a colonoscopy or a colon cancer screening, that means they’re aged 45 and older, we want to see them take that step. Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related death and it should not be because it is preventable," said Wilmot’s Chief Community Impact Officer Candice Lucas.

In 2022, an estimated 151,000 people will be diagnosed with the disease. Those between 45 and 75 years old are especially at risk.
