ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We received a Good Question about this presidential election and voting.

Did you get flyer in the mail saying "WE NEED REPUBLICANS to ensure a fair and honest Election" come November? The notices are coming from the Monroe County Board of Elections to recruit poll workers for Election Day.

But why just republicans? Are these flyers even legit?

A viewer named Kelly asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers about them. The email states "This is setting our country up for a civil war and I am most unhappy. Did this really come from the board of elections?"

That answer is yes. They are real and these flyers are very important.

Election law states each polling site must have a certain number of inspectors at all times split between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats already have everyone they need but the GOP was short, about 400 as of last week.

Republican Commissioner Lisa Nicolay told Somers she thinks that’s mainly due to the pandemic.

"We had tried social media, email and the media to try and find people willing to help," Nicolay explained. "Last week we sent out a postcard to Republican households and the response has been tremendous."

The GOP is now filling those spots and handing out assignments for election inspectors, which is a paid position. You can earn more than $200 for the day.
