ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC’s Brennan Somers got a follow up to a Good Question about the DMV.

Richard wanted to know: What’s the status of the New York State car inspection extension? Can we still hold off on getting the inspection?

The short answer is yes, but there’s a catch.

It just depends on what your inspection sticker says. If yours expired on or after March 31 you’re still good. Anything before that the state wanted you to already have it done.

It’s detailed on the NYS DMV website.

All driver licenses, permits, non-driver identification cards, and vehicle registrations that expired March 1, 2020, or after and vehicle inspections that expired March 31 or after were previously extended and continue to be extended by Executive Order. In addition, the federal REAL ID enforcement deadline has been extended until October 1, 2021.
