ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We received a Good Question about parking changes during this pandemic in Rochester.

Don asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: Why are city parking tickets still occurring fees while the city is shut down and placing boots on people’s vehicles?

For starters, the city is open and parking is running as normal now but during the height of the pandemic, the city waived all parking fees for meters, pay stations and garages. Those fees came back on July 1.

Don’s problem? Don got a ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street and the fees have been piling up.

Alternate street parking rules never went away, the city kept them to make sure first responders never had any issues going to calls.

A city spokesperson told Somers:

The person who received a ticket had options to pay since March: drop boxes are located in the parking office lobby, as well as in City Hall lobby, online payments are available and convenience fees were waived through May and the payment by mail has remained available.

Somers told Don he’s out of luck, he now owes more than $100 for that ticket.
