ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — This time of year is usually full of 5Ks, other weekend races, and it's also the time you'd get started training for the Rochester Marathon, which is still set for September.

News10NBC’s Brennan Somers spoke with organizer Ellen Brenner-Boutillier from Fleet Feet /YellowJacket Racing about their plans for the year.

They've already moved some events to the fall and are coming up with some virtual runs you can do this summer.

Somers: How'd you come up with the fall and October timeframe of pushing events back at least until then for things with people physically on a course all together?

Brenner-Boutillier : So, because those particular events were early on in the schedule and early on in the pandemic. We had a larger window of dates available to us, so we were able to get in early and work with blue cross arena work with the city, work with the various entities to get locked into the October date. So, we were very fortunate there. However, events, now that are occurring now and onwards, they don't have that luxury. So, a lot of them are postponing to next year.

Somers: What are you doing looking ahead to the marathon and other events this fall?

Brenner-Boutillier : When it comes to the Rochester Marathon, we have not spoken with the city of Rochester yet to determine next steps. You know at this point everybody, like you said, is working at a week by week basis. At this point, people are pointing if things are perfect- phase four would begin in the beginning of July. That's a really good step for us towards the Rochester Marathon.

Somers: What would you say to someone who hasn't done one of these virtual events?

Brenner-Boutillier : So, if you're going to do the Summer Around the Finger Lakes five Lake option. It's about two and a half miles per day. If you do the 11 lake option, it's about three and a half miles per day. But you can also bike it, you could also paddle it, you could walk it or you can run it. [Participants] get the most beautiful medal we have ever created in our history, where for each lake that they finish, they get a charm that goes on to the medal, so that they can collect all 11 charms.

"Summer Around the Finger Lakes" tour starts Monday. You have until Sept. 30 to run, bike, walk or paddle the full distance.
