ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — While so much has been put on hold this year, crews are still making headway on some major construction projects.
News10NBC’s Brennan Somers has been getting some questions about one of them.
A viewer named John wanted to know: What is the construction / earthmoving at the 490 - 390 intersection on the west side for?
A News10NBC crew went out there earlier this year after hearing about several trees and brush cleared along 490 before the 531 split near Howard Road. There was nothing left on some of the lots along the shoulder.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) sent a letter to neighbors late in 2019, letting them know tree-clearing work was coming in 2020. So, what's next?
Somers checked back in with NYSDOT about the 390-490 project. It is still expected to wrap up late next year. Contractors are getting ready to put up more noise walls in the area, and they'll start with the foundations next week.
Jordan Guerrein, the NYSDOT spokesperson for the Rochester region, told News10NBC:
“Work is also taking place to build a series of bridges serving as a flyover ramp providing a direct connection for southbound traffic from Route 390 onto I-390, designed to prevent backups and delays at the interchange. The Department planned an open house information session for residents in late-March which we are working to reschedule. In the meantime, we encourage the neighbors who received a letter from us in December to call our field office with any construction questions.”
