Good Question: Where does NY get its COVID data for the travel advisory?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Our good question for Monday has to do with the current travel advisory.

Many people at home are trying to plan trips, tracking cases themselves in other states, but want to know where Gov. Andrew Cuomo gets his data.

The state criteria is based on a seven-day rolling average of positive coronavirus tests in excess of 10% or the number of positive cases exceeding ten per 100,000 residents.

New York is pulling COVID-19 numbers from state websites and comparing those to the “COVID Tracking Project.” That tracking system comes from The Atlantic.

The travel advisory is updated every Tuesday and includes 33 states, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Anyone traveling to New York from those places must quarantine for 14 days.
