GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Greece Police Department is investigating a "suspicious death" on West Parkway after a woman was found dead in her kitchen with blood around her body.
Acting Chief Drew Forsythe says that police received a call around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday from the woman's mother, saying she hadn't heard from her in days. A welfare check was conducted, and the woman was found dead in the home's kitchen.
Police have not identified the victim but did say she was 36 years old.
While few details have been given, Forsythe said there was blood around the woman's body. They are awaiting additional warrants and the Medical Examiner to further investigate the home.
“There’s blood," Forsythe said. "There is blood around the body. It’s an obvious death. It’s a death investigation that suspicious and outside of the normal unattended deaths that we may respond to."
News10NBC crews spoke to Ashley Tatum, who says she's a longtime friend of a woman who lives in the house.
“I’m shocked," Tatum said. "I’m really shocked. I don’t even know if this is true."
Her sister, Brittany was there with her too.
“They said there was a body that was found on the street," Tatum said. "My sister called me. And I jumped right out and came to pick her up and we came over here."
Police said Tuesday evening that they are not expecting to release any updates until Wednesday morning.
This is a developing story. Watch News10NBC or check back later for updates.
