FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The historic Potter Home in the Village of Fairport is listed for sale.
Gifted to the Village in 1943 by Frederick Potter, the Potter Home has hosted endless community events such as girls and boy scouts, bridge club and even driving lessons.
After nearly 80 years of opening its doors to Fairport residents, Village Officials say it's time to put this historic home on the block.
“The Potter House needs a significant amount of work. Due to the declining use and interest in the building, the Village has a significant desire to make sure this building stays desirable, stays a key part of this community, is refurbished back to its original intent and brought back to its original character. That's what we're most concerned with,” said Bryan White, Village Manager of the Village of Fairport.
Fairport Village Manager Bryan White says having a private buyer take over will be in the best interest of the house and community. He also said the response has been overwhelming from buyers.
“If I have to talk about the characteristics of the buyer, I want somebody that’s vested in this community, that cares about Fairport, that wants to make this their home. We’re not looking to turn it into a Starbucks or anything like that. It’s not zoned to do that. When people come here, even if they’re not from here, they know this property. It’s on our street where parades and festivals come around. It’s next to potter Memorial which has significance to the Village of Fairport,” White said.
White says the money sold from the house will go directly back into the village to help with capital projects and reinvestment.
The listing price for the Potter Home is $400,000. An open house will be held on April 26, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and April 28, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The first review of offers will be on Friday, April 30, 2021.
