ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Fire Department has provided more details to the arrest and fire that occurred at 359 Magnolia St. Saturday morning.
According to fire officials, Tyron Hargrove, 37, is now under arrest and faces charges after intentionally setting the house, a multi dwelling, on fire early Saturday morning.
At approximately 3:15 a.m., Rochester Fire and Police Department responded to the 300 block of Magnolia Street for the report of a domestic incident with someone setting the house on fire. When crews arrived, firefighters determined the fire had been intentionally set in the first-floor apartment while a sleeping family in the second floor with children.
RFD was able to confirm that all residents had escaped and there were no injuries.
An investigation revealed that during the course of the domestic incident, Hargrove assaulted a female with whom he has a child in common. The female fled the home to get away from the male. When the female later returned home she discovered her house was on fire.
It took crews 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. Firefighters said the house sustained significant damage on the first floor.
The Red Cross responded to assist the three adults and five children who were displaced by the fire.
Officers located the suspect on West High Terrace near Genesee Street. According to police, during the course of the arrest, Hargrove fought with police but was ultimately taken into custody.
Hargrove has been charged with arson in the second degree, assault in the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.
The suspect is in custody at the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment on the multiple charges.
