ROCHESTER, N.Y.(WHEC) — There have been at least 479 instances where at least one long-term facility resident died of COVID-19 in Monroe County, state data reviewed by News10NBC shows.
The deaths include both at the facility or at the hospital.
It's part of a new day-by-day, facility-by-facility breakdown of COVID-19 nursing home deaths released Wednesday by the New York State Department of Health. From the data, we found the first nursing home COVID death was reported at Unity Living Center in Rochester back on March 24, 2020, and the most recent death was reported by the Shore Winds in Charlotte on Tuesday.
The data was released one week after a state Supreme Court judge ordered it to be released to the Empire Center under the Freedom of Information Law and six months after the center’s original FOIL request.
You can view that data on the Empire Center's website.
We are still working to go through all this data for you, stay tuned to News10NBC, starting at 5:00.
