ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC is going In-Depth to give you an update on a local law aimed at curbing illegal use of dirt bikes and ATVs in Monroe County.

You may recall, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello signed a measure in June that will allow police to immediately impound any dirt bike or ATV illegally operated on a public road.

We've learned the law hasn't taken effect just yet.

A county spokesperson told us the law was filed with the New York Secretary of State back on June 25, but it's not clear when it takes effect.

The penalty for your first offense would be $500 and $2,000 for each subsequent offense.

We've seen a fair share of crashes involving dirt bikes and ATVs, including a Wednesday night crash that killed a Rochester man on Bay Street. A driver was charged with DWI.

News10NBC has a team working to get an answer as to when the law will go into effect. This story will be updated when officials answer us.
