In-Depth: New York State ranked fourth among US COVID case rates

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)—New York State's COVID case rate is among the highest in the United States as we start to see another increase across the country, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show.

CDC stats show New York is currently ranked fourth, with 245 cases per 100,000 people, and that's not including New York City. The nationwide average sits at 132 cases per 100,000.

Michigan has the worst rate in the U.S., with New Jersey and Connecticut right behind.

We wanted to know what infections look like locally, so we went In-Depth.

Counties in the Finger Lakes Region find themselves in the middle of the pack in the state.

  • Genesee County has the highest infection rate in our region at 4.2%
  • Livingston County is the lowest at 2.8%
  • Monroe County: 3.6%
  • Wayne County: 3.2%
  • Ontario County: 3.2%
