ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A homicide in Rochester was caught on camera. News10NBC has the exclusive video.
On a typical Saturday night, you'll find a lot of people partying out on East and Alexander in Rochester. Back in November of 2017, Reginald Peller was one of them. Hours later, the party was over and so was Peller's life.
A home security camera captured the murder. In the video, you can see at least four shots.
News10NBC's Nikki Rudd went back to the scene of the crime with the Rochester Police investigators working to solve the case. The victim, who went by Rozay, was just 31-years-old.
"All indications are this was probably a robbery," RPD Investigator Mike Houlihan said.
After a night at the bars, Houlihan says Peller went to an after-party on Arklow Street.
"What kind of things happen at these after-hour parties?" Rudd asked.
"They are illegal," Houlihan explained. "A lot of times beer and alcohol is served at these parties. There could be gambling. There could be entertainment."
Investigators showed News10NBC the invitation to the party that was posted on Facebook. It reads, "Stripper afty (sic) tonight...drinks...music...lap dances...all night."
"There was a lot of money being thrown around in the party, and a lot of people we've spoken with said Reginald Peller that night had what looked like a significant amount of money on him. Others said it was like a handful of ones," Houlihan said.
After a few hours, Peller left the party and was getting a ride from a friend. Home security video shows him walking to his friend's car on nearby Terry Street.
"As they walk back to the vehicle they're passing several guys who are out on the street here standing just off the sidewalk back in the shadows and the darkness," Houlihan said.
You can see them lurking around in the video. Then investigators say the suspects surrounded the car with guns drawn.
"The surviving victim says they wanted money and whatever was in their pockets and shots just started getting fired," Houlihan said. "There were at least two maybe three weapons involved. We have several different caliber casings that were recovered at the scene."
Peller was found shot multiple times in the back seat of a blue Mitsubishi. He was pronounced dead at Strong Hospital. As for his friend?
"He was shot and struck and collapsed in the driveway of this house right here," Houlihan said as he pointed to the driveway of 11 Terry Street. That man survived.
Police have pictures of two suspect vehicles, but right now investigators don't have enough evidence to make any arrests.
"Do you think the suspects were at the party?" Rudd asked.
"Yes," Houlihan responded. "What I really need is information from the community from people out there who have knowledge of who did this or witnessed something or saw something."
