IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County Legislator Joe Morelle Jr. announced Wednesday he will be running for Irondequoit town supervisor.

The announcement comes just a day after current town supervisor Dave Seeley announced he would not be seeking reelection.

Morelle Jr., a Democrat, is also the son of Congressman Joe Morelle, who Seeley previously served as a senior advisor for.

Morelle Jr. has served in the legislature for the last eight years, where he's represented the 17th District (Irondequoit).

The legislator received nods from Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Seeley, and his father.

No other candidates have announced intentions to run for the position.
