ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Justice Center is reviewing the clinical care that Daniel Prude received at Strong Memorial Hospital the night before he encountered Rochester Police.

Prude was arrested in March. He had no pulse and was not breathing after his arrest, and died seven days later in the hospital. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide and says Prude died from complications of asphyxia due to physical restraint, excited delirium and PCP.

His death was not made public until September.

The spokeswoman for the center said in a statement, “The Justice Center is reviewing the clinical care that Mr. Prude received while at Strong Memorial Hospital the night before his death, as required by law.”

The Justice Center is doing a mortality assessment, which is a review of the clinical care of any person who received services in certain settings within 30 days of their death.

The center says it will send its assessment to the Office of Mental Health and that agency has enforcement authority.
