ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police say a man was shot and killed during a shootout with officers Wednesday night.

Police went to the scene at a Family Dollar store on West Main Street for an attempted robbery when Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan said two officers met the suspect, and then shots were fired by both police, and the suspect.

Herriott-Sullivan says the two officers were not hurt.

Police say there were several people standing nearby during the shootout, they are being questioned on what happened. They were also not hurt.

Officers are going through both bodycam and surveillance video.

West Main Street was reopened.

The chief did not say how many shots were fired, and who shot first.
