ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man is facing charges in connection to a crash that killed a woman and left three others injured.
It happened on Jan. 11 at the intersection of East Main Street and North Chestnut Street when one vehicle heading east passed through the intersection, crashing into another vehicle headed north.
Police say Matthew Canales, 22, of Rochester, was charged with second-degree manslaughter on Wednesday.
In court paperwork, police say Canales was driving over 60 in a 30 mile per hour zone, passed another car on the right using the bike lane, and blew through a red light, hitting a car driven by Sadia Brooks, 33 of Rochester.
Brooks and Canales were both ejected.
Brooks died from her injuries the next day. The other three suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Canales was also arraigned on outstanding third-degree burglary charges on Jan. 14, according to police.
Canales was involved in a separate incident over the summer in Ontario County.
In June, deputies say he took off going more than 90 miles per hour when they tried to pull him over in the town of Seneca.
