ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A suspect in a Rochester shooting is in custody after U.S. Marshals say a chase led to a crash on Carter Street.

A Rochester Police Officer was slightly hurt in the process of taking him into custody.

U.S. Marshal Charles Salina said the 31-year-old suspect was spotted near Lyell Avenue and Sherman Avenue just after 5 p.m. and that he is wanted on a federal warrant for a gun charge and violation of parole, as well as for a shooting in the City of Rochester.

Marshals say when a stop was attempted, the suspect pulled over on Sherman Street, then took off.

Salina said a high-speed chase ensued, but the car ended up spinning out on Carter Street.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries and an officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"This is the second day in a row where we've attempted to take a violent offender off the street and they chose to drive off and engage us in a high-speed pursuit," Salina said. "With the violence going on in the community, the message needs to be sent if you're a violent offender and we're coming to arrest you we're not going to getaway."

The suspect's name has not been released yet, but Salina said he is being charged on a federal warrant.

Investigators did not specify what shooting he is wanted for but did say it was recent.
