ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's 2021 State of the City address was delivered virtually Thursday night.

In a release, City Spokesman Justin Roj says the address will introduce the mayor's Equity and Recovery Agenda, a series of proposals to address the challenges and inequities facing our community.

The proposals include creating a "housing first" trust fund to make affordable housing more accessible and creating the  “ERA Emergency Fund” to keep families from falling into poverty. Warren proposes paying for those programs with the tax revenue from the sale of legal marijuana, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he will push for in 2021. She also proposed funding the programs with university partnerships.

"The ERA agenda is truly about forcing the system to change and recognizing that racism and sexism plays a major part in why this community and the people who live in the community have suffered," Warren said.

The ERA proposes 11 initiatives including a "whole city" approach to reducing violence and making every elementary school and neighborhood community school.

Roj says Warren encourages the community to review the proposals in the ERA agenda and to share their proposals and ideas as well.
