MCSO deploying more deputies to Rush-Henrietta HS Friday after ‘vague threat’

HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is deploying more deputies to Rush-Henrietta High School and the Webster Learning Center Friday over what they’re calling a “vague threat”.

Lt. Rick Bancroft said the threat was made over social media after a fight between two students. Bancroft said the MCSO is actively investigating the threat for possible criminal charges.

Bancroft said there may be more updates on Friday as the investigation continues.

He released the following statement, in part, “Rush-Henrietta families and staff can rest assured that school leadership and the MCSO are doing everything they can to continue to provide a safe school environment. Rush-Henrietta Principal Dr. Shafer, school district officials, and the MCSO are actively working together to ensure the safety of all.”

He is asking anyone with information on the incident to call 911.

Rush-Henrietta Principal Dr. Shafer released the following statement Thursday:

"This afternoon, a fight involving several students from the high school and Webster Learning Center took place at the end of the day.

"We learned this evening that one of the participants made a threat on social media. We are working collaboratively with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to investigate this situation and take appropriate action. Rush-Henrietta has a set of expectations for student conduct that are outlined in the district’s Code of Conduct. The Code will be enforced to the fullest extent in this matter.

"To provide additional peace of mind, sheriff’s deputies will be on campus Friday. We fully expect to have a normal day.

"I know that this type of news can be unsettling. Please remember that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at school. Let’s have a productive day as we prepare for what promises to be a restful Thanksgiving recess."
