List of Monroe County's Memorial Day parades, ceremonies honoring veterans

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Towns across Monroe County and the city of Rochester have parades and ceremonies to honor local veterans planned for Memorial Day. The celebrations continue after two years of canceled or toned-down Memorial Day events due to the pandemic.

Here's a list of some of the events around Rochester on Monday and when they begin.

Chili

8:30 a.m.: The Chili American Legion will host it's annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony starting at the Chili Town Court building at 3235 Chili Ave. 

Spencerport

9 a.m.: The parade will start on West Avenue and continue on Church Street. The parade will then move to Amity Street and then south on Union. 

Webster

9 a.m.: The Cottreall-Warner American Legion Post #942 is holding a parade and ceremony to honor veterans. The parade starts at 9 a.m. at Spry Middle School on Sanford Street. Veterans or active duty service members can ride in the bed of an army truck. The parade will move down South Avenue, turning west on Main Street, and then move to Webster Rural Cemetery. The remembrance ceremony will begin at 10:15 a.m.

Hilton:

9 a.m.: Members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6105, and the Parma-Hilton Honor Guard will hold a remembrance ceremony on the south lawn of the Hilton Community Center. the ceremony will include the playing of Taps and the placing of a wreath in front of the memorial.

Scottsville

9:30 a.m.: The parade will start on Beckwith Avenue and continue down Rochester Street to Main Street. It will end at the Post Home, 61 Main Street.

Honeoye Falls-Lima

9:30 a.m.: The parade will start at 7342 College Street in Lima. There will be a float that veterans will ride in. After the parade, there will be a luncheon from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Gates

10 a.m.: There will be a Memorial Day Service at Gates Town Hall, 1605 Buffalo Road.

Fairport

10 a.m.: There will be a parade through the village of Fairport. The parade will feature former Rochester police chief and congressional candidate La'Ron Singletary.

Pittsford

10 a.m.: The Town of Pittsford’s Memorial Day Parade will feature local community groups and marching bands. It will culminate at the Pittsford Cemetery for a remembrance ceremony. The Rayson-Miller Post will host a free reception for the public immediately after the ceremony.

Penfield

10:30 a.m.: A Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at the Penfield Amphitheater in Veterans Memorial Park at 3100 Atlantic Ave. The ceremony will feature a guest speaker, essays from middle school students, and music to honor veterans. A highlight of the ceremony is Penfield’s traditional Presentation of Roses. During this time, community members honor fallen soldiers with a rose placed on the Veterans Memorial monument stone. 

Rochester

10:30 a.m.: There will also be a parade starting at the intersection of East and Alexander and ending at the D&C Digital building at the corner of North Clinton and Main Street. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m.

1 p.m.: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 20 will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park, which is located at 1440 South Ave. in Rochester.

Greece

11 a.m.: The town's Memorial Day Parade will kick off on Long Pond Road from Janes Road to the Greece Town Hall Campus. Then at 11:45 a.m., the town will hold a Remembrance Ceremony at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion. Attendees can park at Greece Town Hall. Long Pond Road will be closed from Latta Road to Janes Road and a portion of Janes Road will be closed from approximately 10 a.m. to noon.

Rush

11:45 a.m.: The town of Rush will hold a ceremony to honor veterans. The event will be held at our Veterans Memorial Mill Park located next to the falls in the hamlet, at East Henrietta Road.

Brighton

2 p.m.: The town of Brighton will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Buckland Park, 1341 Westfall Rd. The ceremony will honor those who lost their lives serving our country.
