ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Black and Asian Democratic Caucus of the Monroe County Legislature is calling for an independent investigation into what county officials knew about the death of Daniel Prude before the incident was made public.

County Legislators Calvin Lee, Jr (D-Rochester), Sabrina LaMar (D-Rochester), Frank Keophetlasy (D-Rochester) and Ernest Flagler-Mitchell (D-Rochester) make up the Black and Asian Democratic Caucus.

In a statement, Flagler-Mitchell said, in part, “We knew that Sandra Doorley was mentioned as someone who knew but there are others that have been mentioned as well. It will do us no justice if we don’t do our part as legislators and call for an investigation on our officials and our legislators who might have known and have not allowed us all to know what was going on and be as transparent as we could’ve been.”

The Rochester City Council is conducting its own investigation into the incident as well. Monday, four subpoenas were issued in that investigation.
