Monroe County Sheriff’s Office warning of impersonation scam

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a new scam.

It says people are identifying themselves as a deputy or sergeant with the sheriff’s office and telling people they have a warrant or citations.

The scammer then directs you to a different number to get those issues resolved.

The sheriff’s office says this is not how it handles warrants and anyone who gets a call like this should hang up and call 911 to report the scam.
