ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— More than $500,000 in federal funding is coming to help the Baden Street Settlement, a city community program, keep going.

The funding, included as part of a recent appropriations bill in the United States Congress, will go towards building improvements.

Congressman Joe Morelle stopped in Rochester to discuss the funding Wednesday morning. The center supports children, adults, and seniors by providing programs, resources, and basic needs to address the effects of poverty.

Organizers say it aims to build community and self-sufficiency among the people it serves.

"This facility is getting older but it doesn’t have to be old," Morelle said. "And this is home and you know, thousands of families have looked to Baden Street over the generations for support, and it’s a beacon."
