ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A chaotic and frantic scene unfolded after a mass shooting early Saturday morning took two lives and injured 14 others.
Among those who saw it happen was Justin Jackson, who attended the party where the shooting took place.
"My friend, he got hurt the most because they were near the back of the party so he was kind of trying to bust down the fence and then he got trampled and stomped on and got this, like, gash on his arm," he says.
Jackson was one of nearly 100 at the party. While he didn't think a shooting would happen, he says that he had weird vibes during the night that made him want to leave early.
"Everybody was getting all packed, and then knowing we got COVID and all this going on, nobody was wearing a mask either," he says.
Investigators say that several dozen shots were fired during the shooting, and a neighbor named Robert Williams says he heard those shots.
"I mean, bullets have no name, so you just get out of the way," he says. "I just went in the house [because] they always shoot out here on the block."
Jackson, meanwhile, says it sounded like firecrackers as people scrambled to get out.
"My friend said he did see one person with holes, just blood on the ground and another lady who was crawling on her arms because she got shot in the knees," he says.
It was a night that was supposed to be fun, instead becoming one that has shaken up the whole city.
"I didn't sleep last night, I couldn't sleep after that. I was up for a good minute."
Jackson says that he is glad that he made it out safely, and that his friend who got hurt is now at home recovering.
