ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The building operated by iconic Rochester restaurant Nick Tahou's Hots is listed for sale.
The building, located at 320 West Main Street, appears as a "new listing" on Howard Hanna Real Estate Services' website, the asking price is $975,000. A description on the page reads "Historic Main St location, building and land available for developmental use. License agreement for the well-known restaurant also available"
An iconic but struggling Rochester eatery, News10NBC first brought you the story of how the famed home of the Garbage Plate is in trouble because so few people are downtown and plate sales have gone way down.
When asked how long the restaurant has left before having to close, Owner Alex Tahou said, "I don't know. I have a dollar number in mind, where if it gets to that point, we'd have to consider shutting down temporarily at least." He went on to say "Quite honestly if somebody comes in tomorrow and wants to buy the building, I think we'd entertain any offers."
The story brought on a large social media response, including from comedian and garbage plate fan, Jim Gaffigan, customer traffic also reportedly picked up at the time.
City of Rochester property records shows Alex Tahou is the owner of the property. The business itself has been around since 1918, but has not been operated out of its current location the entire time.
To be clear, at this point, the restaurant has not announced any plans to close.
This is a developing story, stay with News10NBC.
