ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Communities that want to opt back in to allowing retail marijuana dispensaries and consumption sites can now do so quickly.

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) Wednesday launched a new online portal for it.

As part of the Marijuana Taxation and Regulation Act, cities, towns and villages that did not want to allow dispensaries and consumption sites within their limits had until Dec. 31 to opt out. That decision meant they would not get any of the tax revenue generated by legal marijuana sales.

They can always choose to opt back in.

The OCM said about 37% of cities, towns and villages statewide voted to opt out of marijuana sales and/or consumption. Several did locally, including Greece, Gates, and Pittsford.
