ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police Accountability Board discussed their role in reviewing the Rochester Police Department Tuesday.
In the press conference the group said despite numerous calls for independent investigations, the PAB has not been contacted. According to the board, the demonstrations over the past couple of weeks have shown the city needs the board now more than ever.
"The PAB was established as a result of legislative action and confirmed by overwhelming voter affirmation," PAB Chair Shawni Wilson said. "Members of PAB were appointed through representative and community-based processes."
Wilson explains that the board's authority comes "from the people."
Held at the Ibero-American Action League, board officials said the purpose of the conference was to “bring the public up to speed about the PAB's progress.”
Board members say that the people's demands for police accountability have been heard and they want to ensure those demands are implemented as quickly as possible.
