GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — The parents of the two teenage boys charged with murder in the death of a man who was set on fire in his apartment on Lyell Avenue Tuesday pleaded not guilty to charges of child endangerment.

The charges stem from an incident that happened before Steven Amenhauser was set on fire, back on Jan. 30. Police say 16-year-old Jayvion Perry and 14-year-old Adriel Riley Jr. were arrested at 1:15 a.m. for having a stolen car.

Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode said Perry's mother, Lekeya Lee, and Riley's father, Adriel Riley Sr., were ticketed with endangering the welfare of a child because neither parent knew where their child was when they were arrested.

On Tuesday, both parents pleaded not guilty on those charges.

They are both due back in Gates Court on June 3.
