ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The new falcon on the Times Square Building has produced a fourth egg.

The camera in their nest reveals that the Peregrine Falcons that live on top of the Times Square Building in downtown Rochester are now guarding four eggs. The latest egg was spotted Monday morning.

The female falcon named U-F laid the first of the bright red eggs early last week, the second egg was laid last Wednesday, and the third on Saturday.

Peregrine Falcons are on New York State’s list of endangered species. This population started declining after the 1940s because of exposure to the pesticide DDT, which caused eggshells to thin and crack. The Department of Environmental Conservation has run a longtime program to preserve falcon nesting sites and led other initiatives to restore their population.
