ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The new falcon on the Times Square Building has produced a third egg.

The camera in their nest reveals that the Peregrine Falcons that live on top of the Times Square Building in downtown Rochester are now guarding three eggs. The latest egg was spotted Saturday morning.

The female falcon named U-F laid the first of the bright red eggs earlier this week and the second egg was laid on Wednesday.

Peregrine Falcons are on New York State’s list of endangered species. This population started declining after the 1940s because of exposure to the pesticide DDT, which caused eggshells to thin and crack. The Department of Environmental Conservation has run a longtime program to preserve falcon nesting sites and led other initiatives to restore their population.
