PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Town of Perinton Monday laid out a new plan to control the scent of garbage coming from the High Acres Landfill.
It revolves around eight principles, including better maintenance, odor verification and notification programs plus more restrictions on what can get thrown out there.
The biggest change will be a reduction in the amount of waste coming from New York City on the railroads.
"While all these points are subject to negotiation, to us, this item is non-negotiable," Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna said. "It's too important to our residents and it's a priority to me as a supervisor."
In response, environmental group Fresh Air for the Eastside says it wants to see an exact number on the reduction of New York City waste coming in.
Right now the proposed agreement is up on the town's website and will be open to community input through May 3.
