ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Steinway piano used and signed by 15-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter, Alicia Keys is now in Rochester.

The piano arrived Friday at The Avenue Blackbox Theatre on Joseph Avenue, its new home.

Musician and Rochester native Andy Nahas won the piano at the MusiCares® COVID-19 Relief auction in August and decided to donate it.

The sale generated $35,000 for MusiCares COVID-19 Relief, which aims to help those in the music industry who have been financially impacted by the pandemic.

The Boston 126E upright piano will be used to expand the theater's musical learning program for inner-city youth and adults.

Blackbox is planning a small dedication ceremony.

"First it has to be tuned. My understanding is that the keys have to settle a little but. No pun intended, but we're also excited to actually go through that process with a Steinway tuner here in Rochester and see how that works and then someone will actually play the piano as well," Reenah Golden of the theater said.

The piano's new owners say Alicia Keys is now part of their family, and she's welcome to come visit.
