ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester's new Police Accountability Board welcomed the city's police chief Thursday night to see how they can work together to improve policing in the community.

The board held a meeting over Zoom, with Chief La'Ron Singletary.

The board was created to discipline police and even overrule the decisions of the police chief.

Singletary was asked if he supports the PAB having disciplinary authority for officers.

"If you want someone to have the responsibility to enact change, and I think that's what much of the conversation is about across the country, and I think if you're a chief executive officer you have to have that authority that goes along with it," Singletary said.

Last month, a state supreme court judge stripped the board of disciplinary powers.

The city council is appealing that decision.
