ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man faces several charges after police say he shot another man six times.

Officers responded to South Clinton Avenue, near the Goodman Street intersection in Rochester's Swillburg neighborhood, on May 24 for the report of a man shot.

Police found the 30-year-old victim, also from Rochester, with six gunshot wounds. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where police say doctors saved his life.

Authorities took 35-year-old Phillip Owens into custody Friday. While searching Owens' home, investigators found an illegal, loaded handgun and approximately six ounces of crack cocaine.

Police charged Owens with first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting.

He also faces charges of second-and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in connection with the gun and drugs found in his home.
