ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gates Police identified the 71-year-old Irondequoit man killed Wednesday in an attempted carjacking.

Police say Richard M. Sciascia was driving on Buell Road in Gates when he was shot during an attempted carjacking around 11 a.m. Wednesday. He later died at the hospital.

Investigators say a black sedan found Wednesday night on Danforth Street in Rochester is the vehicle they were looking for in connection to the shooting. A juvenile was also taken into custody following a brief car chase and foot pursuit Wednesday night and released after an investigation.

News10NBC sent a crew to the Gates Police Department overnight. Our crew reported seeing several investigators enter the building, with some leaving as late as 2 a.m. The crew also observed officers looking at something in a garage at the department.

If you have any tips that could assist the police in identifying the suspects, you're asked to call 911 or a special tip line has been set up at (585) 429-8275.
