Police make arrest in deadly August shooting on Flower City Park and Primrose Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police Tuesday made an arrest in an August homicide that happened on the corner of Flower City Park and Primrose Street.

It happened on Aug. 28 at around 10:15 p.m. 42-year-old Keegan Whitley was pronounced dead at the scene after he was shot at least once.

Police say through their investigation, they identified 25-year-old Tyrique Griffin as the suspect, and on Tuesday, the Major Crimes Unit and Rochester Police Department SWAT team were able to take him into custody without incident.

Griffin was charged with second degree murder and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say the night of Aug. 28, Griffin chased Whitley for at least a quarter of a mile before catching up to him and shooting him. At the time of the shooting, police say Griffin had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a pending criminal charge.

He is scheduled to be arraigned the new charges on Wednesday, and police say the active bench warrant will be lodged upon him.
