Police searching for shooter after Thursday morning shooting on Jay Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Rochester Police are looking for a shooter after they say a man was shot early Thursday morning.

Police went to the scene on Jay Street near Whitney Street just after 2:45 a.m. for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers say they found a large party was letting out but did not find anyone hit.

About an hour after, police got the call to Strong Memorial Hospital about the man, who had shown up in a private vehicle. He had been shot at least once and told officers he got shot in the area where they responded.

The man is expected to survive. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
